There isn’t a casino in Reykjavik which is unfortunate! But there's no reason to stress, there are some fabulous neighbouring casinos, such as Rainbow Casino Aberdeen, Soul Casino Aberdeen, Grosvenor Casino Aberdeen, Genting Casino Glasgow and Grosvenor Princes Casino Glasgow. As stated earlier, casino gambling is illegal in Iceland. While some forms of gambling (such as slot machines, bingo, lottery, sports betting, and football pools) are limitedly legal, other forms are completely illegal. Therefore, there are no casinos in Iceland.

The Reykjavik Casino Club Bar is interesting, and well to be completely honest quiet lonely. We found great humor in the place. We are not gamblers, but as we took a stroll through the downtown area one evening we stumbled across this bar and thought we could stop in for a drink if nothing else. Based on the name and what we saw inside we were unsure as to what the exact purpose of this establishment was. Was it a bar? or a Casino in the heart of Iceland’s capitol?

Casino Club Bar, a bar/ betting pub in downtown Reykjavik

Upon entering this bar in Reykjavik, we found several digital gambling machines, most of which with empty seats. Most of the slot machines had very unique programming. Additionally, there was of course a bar. The drink choices were satisfactory, but not over the top. Which led me to believe that this was more likely casino type establishment. We enjoyed some Viking brew and Wine, and stayed for about an hour to just relax and enjoy the atmosphere. In the hour or so that we were there we played about $20.00 USD in the slots, and won absolutely nothing. Not a single winning pull. We saw two or three others playing constantly, and from the looks of it they were in the same boat as us. Maybe it just wasn’t our night.

The long and short of it is that if you are looking for a Casino in downtown Iceland you have found your place, if your looking for a hopping bar keep looking or try Enski Barinn, an English Pub a few streets over. Next >> Enski Barinn

The idea of a casino being opened in Iceland has been introduced by the Minister of Industry, despite casinos being currently illegal. The Ministry of Health is opposed to the idea.
Fréttablaðið reports that Icelandair would like to open a casino at Hótel Nordica, and have put in a formal request with the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Industry to legalize casinos. Björgólfur Jóhannesson, the director of Icelandair, argues that a casino would be an added tourist attraction for the country. Using the Danish model, it would be taxed heavily – 60% of proceeds would go directly to the government.
Minister of Industry Katrín Júlíusdóttir introduced the idea to parliament, and told Fréttablaðið that she sees both the pros and cons of the idea. On the one hand, it could bring in more revenue for the state, but on the other hand, gambling addiction is a serious condition.
Minister of Health Álfheiður Ingadóttir told Vísir that the ministry is against the idea altogether, saying that Iceland already has enough to offer tourists, and that gambling addiction is just as dangerous an illness as drug addiction.
Gambling is legal to a degree in Iceland. There is a lottery, and there are numerous digital slot machines that can be found pretty much everywhere. Casinos, however, are illegal, so the law would need to be changed accordingly before plans to build a casino could go forward.
